Our and my behavior is an embarrassment to me. Humans should be more. They should learn more, understand more, be more in control, act proactively, feel less alone, defensive. Humans should understand the difference between loudness and enthusiasm. Humans should always feel connected to each other, and never see another as an enemy or a mark. A greeting should always include an apology.
How is it that ancient Greek scholars, 2300 years ago, understood more than the common man/woman understands, or has learned, today? Do most of us lack the intelligence, or are we unwilling to learn? Mankind has the ability to know and understand so much more than it does, what holds us back?
I excuse myself from nothing – I have felt the pain of twisting my mind around a new concept. I too enjoy the complacency of ignorance – professing to know all, refusing to see beyond these/my walls. Knowledge may set you free, but in order to learn you must first admit your ignorance.
Throughout my life I have seen arrogant people rise in adoration – people who quit learning and took up residence in a single view of life: loud people, leaders of still more ignorant people, speaking in platitudes, rhymes, doctrines, easily remembered phrases that seemed to sum up the entirety.
And then there are the quiet scholarly few who spend their days making life fit conveniently into a book, refusing to see the contradictions within the lines, demanding obedience to their interpretation of words spoken centuries ago, in different worlds, and different languages.
Of course, my view is the correct one – you should see that after reading these lines – obviously, one of us must be right.
The truth is that everything is wrong. Even 1+1=2 is a debatable concept (but not here). The truth is that everything is approximate. The truth is that science is always disproved. The truth is that reality is perceived. And if any of this is wrong, I humbly apologize.
So if you’re asking, “Exactly what are you saying Brian?” then you figured me out; I haven’t a clue.
