for everyone

I got down to the park yesterday, and for the first time, strolled over to the Little League baseball park next door.  The place was empty except for a few birds.

This little guy was so small and far away I couldn't get a decent shot, and I haven't a clue what it is.

Then I spotted a Dove sitting on a fence -- I believe it's a Morning Dove.

As I walked along I found more on the ground -- however, the blue-gray patch on its head and the blue-gray around the eye are different.

Then I found a couple more...

The Doves were just sitting on the ground -- I didn't spot them at first since they blended in with the ground cover so well -- they were very calm, letting me walk within 30ft.

On the way back I paused to get a shot of the elegant thistles growing beside the path.

And finally, on the way back I found a Sparrow sitting on the little railroad track -- I think it's a Song Sparrow.

The first bird is a Black Phoebe, The last bird is a House Sparrow, Mourning doves in between.

Nice photos! I didn't know the Black Phoebe, nor the Mourning doves. They are very lovely those doves. We have something
called Turkish Turtle doves in the area. The colour is about the same, but they have a black ring around their neck and they
don't have the dark spots on their tails.
We have plenty of those house sparrows, even though bird conservation is always saying their numbers are growing less each
year. I guess I live in a sparrow-friendly neighbourhood... They're the only ones I've seen drinking from my birdbath so far.

Thank you Debbie.

Bob, I couldn't find a picture of a dove anywhere with the blueish colorings. Thanks for identifying everything for us.

Gerda, I'm glad to hear your bird bath is drawing attention. When identifying the Morning Dove I found several examples of Turtle Doves that were quite similar.

It's nice, getting to know some of these birds. In the past they were simply nice little birds darting around here and there. I don't think I've ever heard the name Phoebe, but now I've got a picture.

the birds are lovely...a mildly interesting story - the first word I taught my grandson was BIRD! LOL...I took him out in the back yard and he was fascinated by them...so I kept saying bird, see the bird and finally, he said it.. the next word that I taught him was rock...lol...there has been no rhyme or reason to the words I have been teaching him...

Vee, that's a great ahhhh story. Why am I not surprised you, the poet, are teaching him new words :) Birds seem to be fasinating and ordinary at the same time. Rocks?... well, they're nice too :)
