for everyone
These are two American Avocets. The pictures were taken at the Martinez, CA marina in March. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Avocet
The pictures were intended to be viewed larger, but this will have to do for now.

These are all just amazing! I don't look at another large version right now--MUltiply is glitchy, and I couldn't get back to your site--and when I did, it was grebes.

But I will be back to look. These are goregous photos.

Bri, you take the most amazing photos...do you develop them as well? Are they from a digital camera?

Vee, they are from a digital camera -- it's an older model Nikon (D50). They are processed in my computer. Many of my older photos were taken with a little Canon A620 digital which is a wonderful little camera too. Digital photography can be really inexpensive compared to film. You can go out and shoot 100 or 200 pictures, download them into your computer and select the best ones. Then erase the memory card in the camera and start all over. With digital you have complete control of processing so slight out-of-focus or inaccurate color can be changed easily. Most of the Avocet photos have only minor changes but others have been, ehem, worked on.

Thanks Karen. I know, Mulitply keeps posting "mantainance" signs. Thanks for taking a look.

Sue, Looking at Wikapedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pied_Avocet ) I think yours is a Pied Avocet. They are very interesting and attractive birds in my opinion -- not that they have a lot of personality, but they're built so extreme with the long legs and long bill.

They are very cute birds! And beautiful photos! I guess the Dutch avocet are more like the ones Susan described. With a black head and beak. Unfortunately they are mostly too far away for me to photograph.

Do I hear DSLR with a 70-300mm lens in your future Gerda???

Wow, these are great photos. I really like this one, too. And now I know what those birds are.

I love this one, too. You get the best photos of birds. But why does Multiply hate me and not want me to navigate easily through your photos?
lunarechoes wrote on May 12
Great angle! It really adds personality.

These are great photos, Brian. Thanks!

Thanks Karen, according to Wikapedia the American Avocet winters in Southern Atlantic waters as well as out here. When you get your Fugi going you'll be taking pictures like these :)
